A bushing-type capacitor in the case of which a varistor compound, especially sintered zinc oxide, is used as the dielectric. In addition, the bushing-type capacitor can contain a further dielectric having a compound of high dielectric constant in order to increase the capacitance, and a ferrite ring in order to increase the inductance. While the capacitance of the bushing-type capacitor acts in a voltage-limiting manner in the case of short pulses and steep pulse edges, the varistor effect, which responds in a delayed manner, becomes effective in the case of longer-lasting pulses having a corresponding amplitude, by means of which effect interference voltages are dissipated to earth.
