<p>A prosthetic device (12) for use in joint replacement in a bone. The device (12) includes an implant (22) adapted to seat on a receiving surface of the bone, defining a bone/implant interface, and an attachment element (36) adapted to be secured to a portion of the bone which is spaced from the interface by an axially extending bone region. The implant (22) is connected to the attachment element (36) by a connecting member (38) adapted to allow substantially unhindered movement of the implant (22) relative to the attachment member (38) to freely accommodate elastic deformation in the bone region between the implant (22) and attachment element (36). A low modulus spring (56), operatively interposed between the connecting member (38) and the implant (22) or attachment element (36), functions to hold the implant (22) against the bone surface with a selected compression force.</p> |
