[Also in Groups XI and XXII] A method of reconditioning a combustion chamber in an appliance having an internal cavity, access to which is through an entrance of small configuration comprises forming a metal sheet into a cylinder, rolling it to a small diameter, inserting it into the cavity via the entrance, unrolling said cylinder to its final diameter, forming an integral flange on at least one end of the cylinder and providing the cylinder with a thermal insulating material. A metal sheet 1 of stainless steel having corrugations 4, openings 5, 6, tags 7 and flattened fold lines 8, 9 is formed into a cylinder 10, the size of which is defined by placing the tags 7 in the appropriate openings 6 and securing them by twisting. Strengthening flanges 11, 12 are formed about each end of the cylinder by bending it outwardly along the fold lines 8, 9 and a thermally insulating liner 13, e.g. refractory fibre felt having a hole 19 is fitted into the cylinder and retained to the flange 11 by retaining clips 17. A blast tube sleeve 14 is fitted to the opening 5 and retained by a number of deformable tabs 16. To fit the cylinder assembly to a domestic furnace 20, the cylinder 10 is rolled to a smaller diameter, Fig. 3, inserted through a furnace entrance 24 and unrolled, the flanges 11, 12 formed and a roll of insulating material, e.g. 0.5 inch thick, passed through the holes 24, 5, unrolled so that the holes 19, 5 are aligned and retained to the inside of the cylinder by the clips 17. Finally the blast tube 14 is secured by tabs 16 to the surround of the opening 5 and to the furnace aperture 24. |
