PURPOSE:To obtain combination of member in which wear characteristics of both members at sliding surface opposing with each other, by composing one member of composite material having alumina-silica fiber contg. mullite crystal as strengthening material, and composing the other member of steel having nitrided layer at surface. CONSTITUTION:Sliding surface part of the first member against the second member is composed of composite material contg. the following alumina-silica fibers as strengthening material. The sliding surface part of the second member against the first member is composed of steel contg. nitrided layer having >=600 (50g) surface hardness Hv. Said sliding surface part has compsn. composed of 35-65wt% Al2O3, 65-35wt% SiO2, 0-10wt% the other component, and alumina-silica fiber contg. >=15wt% mullite crystal quantity is used as strengthening material. Namely, the combination is composed of the composite material made of alumina-silica fiber as strengthening material in which content of nonfiber coarse particles having >=150mu diameter is <=5wt% in the aggregate of said fiber, and metal as matrix selected from Al, Mg, Sn, Cu, Pb and alloy composed mainly of these.
