The return-flow container (30), through which the flow passes from the bottom upwards in a washing machine in order to buffer some of the pumped-off lye, contains, at the lower entry orifice, a tubular extension 31 projecting into the container. As a result, small articles, such as buttons, pins, clips, are precipitated in the "dead" space 32 next to the tubular extension and can no longer descend to the lye pump, where, if precipitated in an unfavourable way, they would block the pump vanes.
