PURPOSE:To measure accurately total org. carbon (TOC) with a simple operation by a stage for mutual sepn., a stage for fractionation of mol.wt. and a stage for measuring TOC distribution. CONSTITUTION:A capillary 3 is housed in a hermetic vessel 1 and a tube 4 is connected to one end thereof. An inorg. acid is added from a tube 5 into sample water flowing in the tube 4. A pipe 7 penetrating through a cap 2 is connected to a vacuum pump for reducing the pressure in the vessel 1. The IC in the sample water turns to carbon dioxide when the inorg. acid is supplied from the tube 5 into the sample water flowing in the tube 4 at the flow rate necessary for decreasing the pH thereof to about <=2. The carbon dioxide penetrates the wall of the capillary tube and transfers into the vessel 1 during the flow of the sample water through the inside of the capillary 3, then the carbon dioxide is released to the outside through the pipe 7. The carbon dioxide in the sample water is effectively separated through the capillary if the reduced pressure in the vessel 1 is maintained at an adequate value. |
