<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-generating composition capable of generating heat upon being brought into contact with water and maintaining a high temperature for a long period of time, by mixing a basic substance which is solid at ordinary temperature with a solid acid which forms a free acid radical when dissolved in water. CONSTITUTION:A basic substance (A) which is solid at ordinary temperature and selected from among CaO, Ca(OH)2, MgO, Mg(OH)2, etc. is mixed with a solid acid (B) which forms a free acid radical when dissolved in water to obtain an intended heat-generating composition. Representative examples of the component (B) include sulfamic acid, sodium bisulfate, phosphoric anhydride, etc. When the heat-generating composition is brought into contact with water, a free acid radical formed by dissolution of the component (B) reacts with the component (A) with generation of heat, so that a warm aqueous solution of about 90 deg.C or higher can be obtained in a short period of time. Since the high temperature is maintained for a long period of time, the heat-generating composition is suitably used for warming food placed in a retort and thawing frozen food on a hiking trip.</p> |
