<p>The arrangement enables an operation carried out at a work station, on a workpiece 2 which is conveyed past the work station 3, to be completed despite unexpected stoppage of conveyor means 1 carrying the workpiece past the work station. The arrangement comprises apparatus (4) for performing said operation on said workpiece and includes drive means (6) which are operable in response to the slowing down or stopping of the conveyor means (1) to drive said apparatus (4) in the opposite direction to the direction of travel of said workpiece (2), and control means which control said drive means so as substantially to maintain a desired relative speed between said workpiece (2) and said apparatus (4) until the operation to be performed on that workpiece is completed. <IMAGE></p> |
