PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively an electrically conductive filler having excellent compatibility with resins, by coating the surface of mica with titanium dioxide film and firing it in a reducing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. of titanium tetrachloride is mixed with or sprayed on natural or synthetic mica powder. Alternatively, said mica powder is immersed in said aq. soln. of titanium tetrachloride. The mixture of said mica powder and said aq. soln. of titanium tetrachloride is fired pref. at 400 deg.C or above to form a titanium dioxide film on the surface of mica. The resulting mica powder having the titanium dioxide film is fired in a reducing gas other than hydrocarbon, e.g., hydrogen, ammonia or hydrogen sulfide stream at 800-950 deg.C to form an electrically conductive film of lower oxide of titanium. Alternatively, the resulting mica powder is reduced and fired in a hydrocarbon gas stream to form a carbon-deposited film on the surface of the titanium oxide film.
