A process for the preparation of a polyvinyl chloride type polymer by bulk homopolymerization of bulk copolymerization of vinyl chloride. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of a polymeric substance which is soluble or colloidally dispersible in vinyl chloride. After completion of the polymerization, a polymeric substance which is soluble or colloidally dispersible in vinyl chloride is added to a slurry formed by the polymerization.
