L-Phenylalanine was purified from ferm. broth by cationexchange chromatography. Thus, after removing cell mass, the ferm. broth(L-Phe logle) was adjusted to pH1.5 and adsorbed on cationexchange resin(Dilon SK-1B) tower. After removing small amt. of cell mass and moisture from tower, the tower was equilibrated with 1N NH4OH soln. The L-Phe was eluted with 1N NH4OH soln. The active fractions were combined, adjusted to pH 5.5, decolorized with 100 wt.% active carbon, concentrated, and then recrystallized to give L-Phenylalanine of 99.9% purity.
