PURPOSE:To enable the measurement of changes in the particle size, by photographing particles flying with two cameras and two xenon flash lamps to determine 3-way speed components of particles from the moving distance thereof. CONSTITUTION:Coal particles 5 jetted from a coal jet nozzle 2 flows through a combustor body 1 being carried on a whirling air 6 and photographed on films 10 and 11 with cameras 7 and 8 focusing on the space 9 in the body 1. As the light source for photography, lights of two xenon flashes 12 and 13 are projected to the space 9 with reflecting or transmitting half-mirror 14. The two cameras 7 and 8 and the two flashes 12 and 13 are controlled with a synchronizer 19. Thus, changes in the particle diameter can be measured by determining 3-way speed components of the particles 5 from the moving distance of particles 5 taken.
