PURPOSE:The reaction between an aromatic nitro compound and carbon monoxide is carried out in the presence of a major catalyst and a cocatalyst of vanadium compound to enable easy and high-yield production of the titled compound which is used a feedstock for polyurethane or agricultural chemicals. CONSTITUTION:When an aromatic isocyanate is produced by reaction between an aromatic nitro compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst selected from a mixture of Pd or its mixture with a nitrogen-containing heterocy clic compound, Pd complex containing the said heterocyclic compound as a ligand and a mixture thereof with the said nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound at elevated temperature and pressure, the reaction is carried out in the presence of an active hydrogen-bearing compound such as HCN, using a cocatalyst which is composed of a phosphorus compound such as PF3, a vanadium compound such as VCl3 and tertiary amine such as triethylamine. The objective compound is obtained by distillation of the reaction mixture. |
