PURPOSE:To shorten the time of quick traverse by making the tape speed at the time of quick traverse nearly constant from the beginning to the end. CONSTITUTION:At the time of quick traverse, an output of digital period measuring circuits 3, 13 is inputted to a digital mixing circuit 25, and a digital mixing speed error signal is obtained, and a speed system error signal corresponding to the average value of rotational numbers of feeding side and take-up side reel turntables is obtained through a switch 26. This speed system error signal is inputted to a motor driving circuit 19 through a mixing circuit 18 to control the rotational number of a capstan motor 11. By driving the take-up side reel turntable from the capstan motor 11 through a transmission mechanism, a magnetic tape is wound from the feeding reel to the take-up reel.
