PURPOSE:To prevent comfortableness in a vehicle from being degraded due to successive gear shift-down operation by having a controller inhibit change to lower gear shift position if car speed is reduced. CONSTITUTION:In accordance with a preset map, optimum speed change gear in each range of DP or DE is determined and it is also determined whether gear is shifted down to a lower gear position or not. From the result, if the gear is changed down in a lower gear position at the braking time, gear mode is returned to a main flow, in which the current step is shifted to a step determining whether or not shift up operation shoud be performed and an appropriate gear shift operation will be done. If the car is assumed that it is running in a low speed gear position and might be stopped by a braking operation, any meaningless shift down will not be done and the controlling feeling will be therefore improved. |
