PURPOSE:To reduce a cold-rolling reduction rate and to lower an annealing temperature at the next stage, by heat treating a sheet slab in-line to obtain a fine metallurgical structure in manufacturing a metallic sheet by a twin-drum type continuous casting machine. CONSTITUTION:A slab 3, formed by water-cooling casting rolls 1, 1', is cooled once to the temperature not more than its A1 transformation point, and is heated again to the temperature not less than its A2 transformation point by a heating furnace 7, and is kept at that temperature. Thereafter, the slab 3 is cooled by gas or water or a mixture of them, and is carried to the next stage. Because the metallurgical structure of slab 3 obtained at this stage is very fine, a cold-rolling reduction rate can be reduced and an annealing temperature is also lowered when the slab 3 is cold rolled at the next stage, and the energy consumption is reduced.
