PURPOSE:To obtain a profile extracting filter where the 1H delaying circuit can be used in common with a luminance signal chrominance component separating circuit by extracting a profile signal directly from a video signal. CONSTITUTION:A chrominance signal component, which leaks in the horizontal profile signal, is comparatively high in the vertical frequency, and a horizontal frequency occupies the area close to a color sub-carrier 5sc. When the horizontal frequency is close to fsc, the horizontal signal difference is almost equal to zero, for the signal having the above-mentioned frequency components, the output of a vertical profile extracting filter 104 is selected, and the chrominance signal component, which can not be removed by a horizontal profile extracting filter 103 can be completely removed. Thus, since the horizontal and vertical profile signals can be extracted directly from the video signal, a YC separating circuit and a 2H delaying circuit, which separate the luminance signal and the chrominance signal component from the video signal, can be used in common. Since the horizontal profile extracting filter and the vertical profile extracting filter are changed over in accordance with the characteristics of the picture image, the profile signal with a little leaking of the chrominance signal component can be obtained.
