Installation for linear treatment, such as edging, of textile pieces 1. It comprises a sewing machine 2, equipped with a presser foot/claw system 3, a work table 6 which supports the piece 1 during the edging, a detection device 14, 15, 16 and two recentring means controlled together or independently of one another by the instructions given by the detection device 14, 15, 16. The two recentring means consist, on the one hand, of an active guide 9 placed immediately in front of the presser foot 3 and ensuring the movement of the part of the piece which is located close to the presser foot 3, substantially transversely with respect to the seam line and, on the other hand, of a movable support 7 placed upstream of the active guide 9 exhibiting a planar surface which can move in the same plane as the work table 6. <IMAGE>
