The filter comprises an entry 5 for contaminated gas, a wetting chamber 2, at least one wetting nozzle 3, a separation chamber 18 and an exit conduit 23 for clean gas; it is characterised in that the wetting nozzle 3 is arranged at one end of the wetting chamber 2 and in that the entry 5 for contaminated gas opens laterally into the wetting chamber 2 in a region at a distance from the wetting nozzle 3. The filter additionally comprises a series of scrubbing nozzles 10 arranged on a removable crown ring 8 at 120 DEG from one another. Application to the filtration and drying of a gas by the use of a refrigerated scrubbing fluid. <IMAGE>
