PURPOSE:To provide for increased processing speed and make possible graphic recognition which takes the draftsman's intention into account on the premises that the graphic is unexceptionally constructed of circular arcs and straight lines. CONSTITUTION:A graphic on a drawing inputted from an optical drawing reader 1 is subjected by a dot-row processing part 2 and a macro-recognition processing part 3 to rough feature extracting and be a macro-recognition processing part 4 to extraction of detailed features. The points under consideration are not taken point by point as sample points but each point is taken as sample point. An angle between a vector connecting the point in consideration and the next point and a vector connecting the latter and the further next point is found and is used as feature quantity. By using this quantity, the rough shape of the figure is approximated by a straight line or a circular arc and a micro- processing by a processing part 4 is effected after macro-processing by a processing part 3. The graphic recognition taking the draftsman intention into account becomes possible on the premises that all graphics are constituted by circular arcs and straight lines through a straight line and circular arc over all processing part 5.
