PURPOSE:To obtain a heat storing material at low cost which causes no phase separation, has an excellent thermal conductivity and can eliminate the need for dispersion of a metallic fiber etc. therein, by dispersing a latent heat storing material in a colloidal form in a liquid solvent with the aid of a surface active agent etc. CONSTITUTION:An intended heat storing material is obtained by placing in a vessel a latent heat storing material 1 comprising a water-insoluble substance such as paraffin or high-density polyethylene and a liquid solvent 2 (e.g. water) and adding thereto a surface active agent 4 (e.g. sodium alkylbenzene-sulfonate or gum arabic) to coat the latent heat storing material 1 with the surface active agent 4 and disperse it in a colloidal form in the solvent 2. When the bottom of the vessel 3 is heated, the colloidal particles are fused to absorb the heat of fusion. On the other hand, at the time of heat dissipation, the colloidal particles in a fused state set to dissipate the heat of solidification from the bottom of the vessel 3.
