PURPOSE:To stably operate a coke oven by blowing a carbonization gas in a carbonization chamber in the middle of a coal carbonization conducted in a chamber coke oven to control the adherence of carbon, thereby to utilize the carbon as a joint compound etc. of oven wall bricks and, at the same time, to prevent the leakage of a gas and damage to the oven body. CONSTITUTION:A suitable amount of a carbonization gas which is a hydrocarbon gas containing about 30% of CH4 generated in a coke plant is blown in a carbonization chamber of a chamber coke oven in the middle of carbonization in the chamber coke oven in which the adherence of carbon is extremely increased, i.e. a period from the time when the temperature in the coal exceeds 100 deg.C to the time when the temperature reaches 600 deg.C, thereby to control and adjust the adherence of carbon to the internal surface of the carbonization chamber.
