AC voltage pulses are applied to an ozone generator 6 by means of pulses of a thyristor bridge invertor 4, via a pulse transformer 51, 52 which is connected in the centre branch 48 of said invertor. If, for example, an arc short-circuits the transformer in the ozone generator, then the thyristors can no longer be turned off. Thus, in the event of a short-circuit, all the thyristors are turned on by a signalling device 7, 9, as a result of which the voltage on a capacitor C which is located in the invertor input circuit collapses and reverses via an additional input inductor L2 and diodes 47 which are connected in reverse parallel. In consequence, the thyristors 43 to 46 are turned off. <IMAGE>
