Process for thermoforming textile surface linings, in particular of lining parts for the passenger compartments of motor vehicles, in which process a blank of the textile surface lining material is introduced into a press mould consisting of one mould half arranged fixed to the frame and one movable mould half arranged on a press table and is thermoformed at elevated temperature by means of pressure exerted on the press table, in which process the blank of the textile surface lining material is clamped in a frame and the frame is brought between the mould half fixed to the frame and the movable mould half in such a manner that, on closing the mould, the frame is driven by the movable mould half or by the press table into the working position, the frame being mounted floating so that after it strikes against an adjustment stop which determines the adjustment on the mould half fixed to the frame, it does not restrict further movement of the press table. The device consists of a frame for receiving a blank of the textile surface lining and of a lifting frame which is arranged on the press table, surrounds the movable mould half, corresponds to the frame holding the blank and is mounted on a pneumatic lifting and compensating device which simultaneously serves to guide the lifting frame.
