Sausage-shaped packs of flexible material, which are filled with pasty filling material, are provided with a cap when the filling material, for example a sealing compound, is being worked through a nozzle on the cap orifice. The nose of the pack must project so far through the outflow orifice of the cap that the closure can be cut off outside the outflow orifice of the cap. So that the end of the sausage-shaped pack can project so far, the sausage-shaped pack must have a preshaped lengthened nose where viscous filling material and/or sensitive wrapping material, for example aluminium foil, is concerned. This is achieved in that the sausage-shaped pack is closed in an essentially air-free manner, its end is shaped into a lengthened nose, and subsequently the cap is attached on to the region of the sausage-shaped pack adjoining the nose. An apparatus suitable for producing such a sausage-shaped pack 4 is either a pressure-resistant housing 11 with a diaphragm 8, which shapes the end of the filled sausage-shaped pack 4 into a nose 6, or a cuff 15 which is placed round the end of the sausage-shaped pack 4 and which is put under pressure. <IMAGE>
