The invention relates to a water box, consisting of a base plate made from metal or plastic and a cover part made from plastic, for heat exchangers which are arranged in the coolant circuit of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine and whose tubes and any cover parts are sealed by means of elastic seals in the base plate. In accordance with the invention, the tubes for the coolant, which penetrate the base plate, are sealed by means of sealing sleeves made from an elastic material and by multiple mechanical widening in the water-box base, all the sealing sleeves being injected or vulcanized onto the insides of the tube openings in the base plates. The injection or vulcanization of the sealing sleeves into the tube openings of the base plates is expediently performed simultaneously at all the sealing points of a base plate. In the case of a metal base plate, the rim seal for sealing between base plate and cover part is also injected or vulcanized at the same time as the tube seals. This rim seal is omitted in base plates made from plastic. <IMAGE>
