A friction-gear drive for bottom-flange travelling gear mechanisms, trolleys and the like has a chassis which bears at least one set of rollers for movably mounting the chassis on a running rail and on which on one side of the friction-wheel axle a friction-wheel drive unit comprising a driving motor, a gear mechanism and a driven friction wheel is mounted such that it can be swivelled about a horizontal axis. The friction wheel of this friction-wheel drive unit can be brought into engagement with the outer surface of the bottom flange of the running rail, the friction-wheel drive unit being anchored releasably on the chassis at an anchoring point which is at a distance from the bearing. In order to make it possible to set simply the set value of the contact-pressure force of the friction wheel against the bottom flange of the running rail, the arrangement is made such that the friction-wheel drive unit is anchored at the anchoring point to the chassis via a presettable, releasable lock.
