In this method and device, an identification signal is transmitted within the frequency band belonging to a video/audio information, the identification signal is received and ensures the reproduction of the video/audio information or prevents it in dependence on the information content of the identification signal. For this purpose, a decoding device for the identification signal, a lockable switch and a reproduction prevention circuit which is connected to the output of the decoding device are provided. Depending on the output signal of the decoding device, the reproduction prevention circuit is either activated or deactivated, the lockable switch being installed in such a manner that in its first position the reproduction is ensured without regard to the identification signal, in its second position the reproduction is either ensured or prevented in dependence on the identification signal.
