A process and a blank for producing plate-shaped ceramic products, in particular roof tiles are provided. In the process, when the ceramic blank is extruded there is formed on to it at least one spacer in the form of an angle piece, which projects from a region near the edge of the plate underside, essentially parallel to the latter and running over the plate edge, and protrudes upwards and/or downwards outside the outline of the plate. After completion of the operations requiring stacking of the blanks, the angle-piece spacer is cut off the blank, or the finished product.
