摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain superior liquid crystal element having ferroelectric property by sealing a liquid crystal between a pair of substrates at least one of which has orientation control film comprising an org. compd. film formed by electrolytic polymn. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal element is constituted of a liquid crystal 3 sealed between a pair of substrates 2, 2', at least one of which has orientation control film 1, 1' comprising org. compd. film formed by electrolytic polymn. The film of the org. compd. is formed on the substrates 2, 2' by dipping the substrate 2 or 2' as one of the electrode after providing a transparent electrode 6, 6' thereto in a soln. contg. a monomer for forming the coating film and a supporting electrolyte, and proceeding oxidation polymn. or reduction polymn. of the monomer electrochemically by impressing a voltage between the electrodes. The liquid crystal 3 is not critical, for example, nematic liquid crystal, cholesteric liquid crystal, smectic liquid crystal, or chiral smectic liquid crystal may be used.</p>
