A device for deploying continuous lengths of roll or coil material alongside a pipeline (10) includes means (16) for tracking the pipeline, and means (14) secured to the tracking means for rotatably supporting one end of a reel or spool (13) on which the roll or coil is wound. The support means (14) may be vertically adjustable relative to the tracking means to allow for contour variations of the sea bed.
