PURPOSE:To obtain the position of moving body by providing the moving body with one light emitting device and a photodetecting device which consists of a condenser lens for photodetecting light emitted by it and a two-dimensional position sensitive device(PSD). CONSTITUTION:When light strikes on some position of the two-dimensional PSD, electromotive force is generated by photoelectric effect and a current is let out of the PSD from every side. This current is processed to detect which position of the PSD the light strikes on. For the purpose, the two-dimensional PSD is so installed that the center of the PSD 5 is on the center line of a floor surface 1, and then the spot light striking on the two-dimensional PSD 5 shifts in position as the moving body 2 moves on the floor surface 1. The moving body 2 knows the position of the spot light to know its position.
