PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost character processor by using the latest use word list as learning data and performing the learning processing with a memory capacity smaller than that in the system where a bit for learning is provided for each word. CONSTITUTION:A reading string inputted by an input device is converted to the representation of a word with a converter by retrieving a dictionary, and the latest use word list is referred to give priority levels to it, and conversion candidates, the priority levels, and address information are registered on a homonym buffer. Contents of the homonym buffer are displayed on a display device, and the candidate having the lower priority level is displayed when the next candidate is indicated by a next candidate indicating device. When selection is indicated by a selecting device, the candidate in the homonym buffer which is displayed at present is settled and is selected, and address information corresponding to the selected candidate is registered in the latest use word list.
