<p>A method of deacidifying cellulosic material, such as books, imaged paper and other imaged material having a cellulose base, comprises treating said material with suitable alkaline particles of a basic metal oxide, hydroxide or salt dispersed in a gas or suspended in a liquid, in an amount and for a time sufficient to cause the particles to penetrate the interstices of the material, to increase the pH of the material and provide an alkaline buffer without impairing the image thereon.</p> |
