PURPOSE:To prevent a dissolution and a water invasion of the titled device by treating a space part bounded in three directions by a terminal electrode for connecting to the outside, a facing substrate projecting out to a position facing said electrode and a sealing material, with a water repellent agent having a perfluorocarbon group. CONSTITUTION:The space part 7 bounded in three directions by the terminal electrodes 8, 8' for connecting to the outside, the facing substrates 1, 1' projecting out to the position facing said electrode and a sealing material 4, is treated with the water repellent agent 9 having the perfluoroalkyl group. The water repellent agent having the perfluorocarbon group is the agents having a relatively low mol.wt. and a high mol.wt. respectively. The agent having the relatively low mol.wt. is a compd. having a fluorocarbon chain and a group capable of affording a water repellent property in a molecule. The water repellent group capable of affording the water repellent property is preferably a silicon contg. group shown by the formula wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each a lower alkyl group. The fluorocarbon chain and the group capable of affording the water repellent property bond with each other in various kinds of binding forms such as an amide and an ester bindings.
