<p>PURPOSE:To improve preparation efficiency by adding water-soluble alcohol as viscosity adjusting agent to aq. soln, of a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and titanium alkoxide, coating the soln. on a print area of a substrate by printing and forming an orientation control film by heating the coated film. CONSTITUTION:Water-soluble alcohol is added to aq. soln. of a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and titanium alkoxide as viscosity adjusting agent, and the soln. is coated by printing on a necessary area of a substrate. Thus, a liquid crystal element having an orientation control film formed by heating the coated film is prepd. Preferred polyvinyl alcohol is one having 1,000-3,000 degree of polymn. and 98-100% degree of saponification, and preferred titanium alkoxide is chelated titanium alkoxide in order to obtain good solubility in water. Suitable proportion of PVA to titanium alkoxide is 0.5-4pts.wt. titanium alkoxide to 1pt.wt PVA. Suitable water-soluble alcohol for viscosity adjusting agent is ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, etc.</p> |
