PURPOSE:To improve the front contrast by providing a phase difference plate so as to have the orientation axis of a liquid crystal molecule and an optical elastic axis is the direction of about 45 deg., between the upper substrate or the lower substrate of a liquid crystal cell and a polarizing plate. CONSTITUTION:A phase difference plate is provided so as to have the orientation axis of the liquid crystal molecule determined by an orientation which is performed to a substrate, and the optical elastic axis in the direction of about 45 deg., between the upper substrate or the lower substrate of the liquid crystal cell and the polarizing plate. The liquid crystal molecule 5 being right above an oriented film 3 is oriented forcibly in the direction as indicated with an arrow by an orientation processing which is performed to the oriented film 3. The orientation processing of an oriented film 2 is intersected orthogonally within the range of + or -10 deg. with the oriented film 3, and the Z' axis of the oriented film 2 is intersected orthogonally within the range of + or -10 deg. with the Z' axis of the oriented film 3. As for a lower polarizing plate 6, its absorption axis is provided in parallel within the range of + or -20 deg. to the bearing of the Z' axis of a lower substrate B, and the absorption axis of an upper polarizing plate 7 becomes parallel within the range of + or -20 deg. to the Z' axis of the lower substrate B. The Z' axis of a phase difference plate 9 divides an angle made by the oriented film 2 and the absorption axis of the upper polarizing plate 7, into two equal parts within the range of + or -5 deg.. |
