PURPOSE:To prevent the floating of punching material and to prevent the reduction in the operation rate of a press trimming metal die by providing at least one piece of groove on the tip face of punching punch. CONSTITUTION:A thin plate 4 is punched by press trimming metal die 3' using the punch 1' for thin plate punching which provides at least one piece of groove 5 on the tip face. The projection of the shape which is along the groove 5 of the tip face of the punch 1' is formed on the upper face of a punching material 4' by the press pressure at the punching time and the compression stress remains. When therefore the punching material 4' is pushed down to the lower part of the die 2 and released from the punch hole, both sides are slightly bent to the lower part by the compression stress of the projection, falling with automatically separating from the tip face of the punching punch 1' and the floating of the punching material 4' is prevented.
