摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To improve the quantity of transmitted light and a contrast ratio by constituting a device so that axes of polarization of polarizing plates provided on and under a liquid crystal cell are orthogonal to each other and forming specific angles to a bisector of the angle made between lines of orientating treatment directions of electrode substrates. CONSTITUTION:A maximum transmittance is attained if the direction of a polarization axis 6 of a polarizing plate 3 arranged under a liquid crystal panel is orthogonal to the direction of a polarization axis 5 of a polarizing plates 4 arranged on the liquid crystal panel when the polarization axis 5 of the polarizing plate 4 is fixed. The maximum contrast ratio is attained if polarization axes 5 and 6 of polarizing plates 4 and 3 arranged on and under the liquid crystal panel are arranged at + or -45 deg. to a bisector 9 of the angle made between lines 7 and 8 of orientating treatment directions of electrodes substrates 2 and 1. Thus, the transmittance and the contrast ratio are maximum when polarization axes of polarizing plates arranged on and under the liquid crystal cell are orthogonal to each other and forms 45 deg. to the bisector of the angle made between lines of orientating treatment direction of electrode substrates.</p>
