A polishing device particularly for leather comprises backing sections 12a, 12b, 12c, hinged together so that the pad may be folded as shown in Fig. 1 to fit into a cover cap 14, and of flexible plastics material of which that connecting adjacent sections forms the hinges. The backing sections carry a polishing pad 17, e.g. of polyurethane foam, having a polishing surface of serpentine configuration longitudinally, the undulations of which interlock when the device is folded. Springs 16 tend to hold the sections 12a, 12b, 12c in alignment. The device is secured to a holder 11 which receives the cover cap 14 and: carries on its reverse side a pad 13 impregnated with polish and having a cover cap 15. In alternative embodiments (1) the springs 16 are replaced by a single torsion spring (2) the holder comprises hinged sections adapted to fold around and enclose the folded polishing device (4) the holder is of square section in plan, and (5) the middle one of the three hinged backing sections is provided with pins for engaging holes in the holder.</p> |
