PURPOSE:To decide the validity or invalidity of data without reducing the information quantity to be recorded of the 2nd data showing the recording mode of the 1st data, by recording (m) bits in the n-bit data with prescriptions defined so as to obtain no coincidence with the data that is replaced unequivocally to the error data in a code error mode. CONSTITUTION:The analog audio signal supplied through a terminal 29 is supplied to a PCM audio signal processing circuit 30 and sampled to be converted into the digital data in a record mode. This digital data undergoes the signal processing. At the same time, index ID data is also produced together with the audio data. The recording audio data thus obtained is added with the TPS and other pilot signals which are produced by a pilot signal generating circuit 32 for each field and in the rotation of f1 f2 f3 f4 through an adder 33. The output of the adder 33 is gated properly by a gate circuit 28 and written on a desired area by heads 3 and 4.
