<p>2,2-Dimethyl 5- (2,5-dimethyl phenoxy) valeric acid and its acceptable salts are made by (a) reacting 3-(2,5-dimethyl phenoxy) propyl bromide with Mg in THF, in presence of iodine; (b) reacting the Grignard cpd in situ with acetone; (c) hydrolysing with diol H2SO4 to the corresp. alcohol; (d) reacting this with SOCl2 in presence of pyridine; (e) reacting the chloro deriv. formed with Mg in THF in presence of iodine; (f) reacting the Grignard cpd. with solid CO2; and (g) hydrolysing with dilute HCl.</p> |
