PURPOSE:To recover sensitive heat with a high efficiency of cooling and heat recovery without causing uneven cooling, by performing fluidized separation of high-temperature granules with a small diameter in a packed column type cooling tower, cooling them in a specified fluid bed cooling tower and feeding hot gas into a boiler. CONSTITUTION:High-temperature granules such as red-hot coke or sintered ore are filled in a packed column type cooling tower 1 through a dispenser 17. The packing in the tower 1 is divided by fluidized separation into granules with a small diameter 3 and coarse-sized granules 12 to form a tow-layer structure. The fine granules 3 sent through a connector 9 into a fluid bed cooling tower 2 provided on the side of the tower 1 is made to flow down through a grating 10 and an overflow pipe 11 and is cooled with an inert gas blown through a control valve 19. The inert gas at an elevated temperature is fed through a connecting duct 5, a coarse dust catcher 6 into a boiler for recovery of sensitive heat. A fluid of coarse-sized granules 12 and the fine granules 3 in the tower 2 are discharged at about 200 deg.C by means of discharging devices 13 and 14 respectively and hot inert gas is fed into a boiler 4 through a connecting duct 5.
