PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. having excellent shape retentivity and moldability, by incorporating a specified dispersion medium in the skeleton of (modified) PVA. CONSTITUTION:5-35wt% (modified) PVA having a viscosity-average degree of polymn. of 1,000 or above and a degree of saponification of 95mol% or above is dissolved in a sulfoxide compd. (e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide) which is liquid at room temp. as a dispersion medium. If desired, 0.1-200pts.wt. (per 100pts.wt. PVA) filler (e.g. CaCO3) and 0.01-100pts.wt. (per 100pts.wt. PVA) org. compd. (e.g. hemoglobin) are added to the resulting soln. While cooling, the mixture is left to stand to thereby cause it to gel, thus incorporating said dispersion medium in the skeleton of (modified) PVA. EFFECT:An oily gel compsn. which does not separate the sulfoxide compd. even under long-term storage conditions can be obtd.
