PURPOSE:To discriminate the odd/even number of picture fields automatically and also to discriminate automatically interlace/non-interlace by providing a discriminating circuit inputting a vertical and a horizontal synchronizing signal separated from a video signal. CONSTITUTION:A video signal VS from a CRT display 1 is split into three primary colors R, G, B and outputted and the signal G is inputted to a synchronous separator circuit 2, where the vertical synchronizing signal VSYNC and the horizontal synchronizing signal HSYNC are separated. The separated signal VSYNC is inputted to the discrimination circuit 3, and a horizontal synchronizing signal HSYNC' from which an equivalent pulse is rejected by an equivalent pulse ejection circuit 4 by using the HSYNC is inputted to the circuit 3. When the display of the CRT1 is executed in any standard system, the signal is given to the circuit 3 and stored in a correct recording buffer memory and read. A discrimination signal OD is outputted. That is, the display by interlace/non- interlace and the even/odd number field are discriminated and one frame is reproduced without any error.
