Speech signals, received via a microphone, are evaluated in a speech recognition device such that the telephone subscriber to be called can be selected directly by acoustic input of words and/or numerals. The station adjuster has a selection control consisting of a test and switching logic (PUL), a selection control computer, a telephone register memory, a display, an input keyboard, and a bidirectional bus system (BUS). - The components of the control are interconnected by the bus system coupled by an interface (I1) to a speech recognition device (SPE), and by a second interface to a data carrier. The system is coupled via a selector and speech signal converter to a subscriber line.
