PURPOSE:To develop a mandrel having superior resistance to erosion by molten glass and capable of standing long use by composing the surface of a mandrel for glass tube forming, which is to be in contact with molten glass, out of a Co-base alloy having a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:The part, which is to be in contact with molten glass, of the mandrel for glass tube forming for use in manufacturing glass tubes from molten glass is composed of the Co-base alloy consisting of 0.1-1% C, 0.01-2% Si and/or Mn, 25-40% Cr, 5-15% Ni, 2-12% W and/or Mo, 0.1-5% Hf and the balance Co, or further containing 0.1-3% of 1 or >=2 kinds among Ta, Nb and Ti or 0.005-0.1% B and/or Zr independently or in combination. The mandrel for glass tube forming having superior resistance to erosion by molten glass and capable of standing long use can be developed.
