The device serves for the sealed bridging of an expansion joint in a roadway. The joint is divided by a number of parallel strips (10 - 12) running in the longitudinal direction into narrower gaps which are each sealed independently by means of expansion bands fastened on the strips. Each strip is supported on its own crosspiece (20 - 22) fixed rigidly to it, while the other strips cross these with play. A control device mounted in the joint gap under the crosspieces ensures that, when the joint gap is widened or pushed together, the strips divide the gap into part gaps uniformly. The control device comprises a guide bar (40) which crosses the gap in an oblique direction. One end thereof is, by means of a connection sleeve (41'), held pivotably about the axis (50) fastened vertically on the joint wall (W1). The other end of the guide bar (40) is in the same way held pivotably and additionally displaceably in the sleeve (41') on the opposite wall (W2). Arranged displaceably on the guide bar (40) are connecting sleeves (41) which are each connected to a crosspiece (20 - 22) by means of a vertical pin (23 - 25). The control device constructed thus can be assembled free of play so that no rattling noises occur when the joint is driven over. It nevertheless allows settling and positional displacements of the structural parts without jamming. <IMAGE>
