PURPOSE:To coat an optical fiber with resin at an increased linear velocity by passing the optical fiber through a resin soln. in a soln. reservoir while forcing the soln. to be convected. CONSTITUTION:The resin soln. 5 is dropped into a flow regulating tube 9 placed as shown in the figures from the top of the tube 9 by overflow, and the soln. 5 is forced to be convected around an optical fiber 7 along the running direction. Accordingly, the resin soln. 5 is moved in accordance with an increase in the running speed of the fiber 7, and the fiber 7 can be coated with resin without hindrance. Since the horizontal overhang 14A of a suspended arm 14 is under the surface of the soln. 5, the intrusion of bubbles into the soln 5 can be prevented. The soln. 5 is slowly fed so as to maintain overflow from the top of the tube 9 and the surface of the soln. 5 is controlled.
