PURPOSE:To generate a desired elliptic profile for a workpiece by rotating a work holder to rotate a crank shaft at twice the speed of the work holder, swinging a swingable member, and by combining the motion of the swingable member and the movement of a tool position control by the crank shaft and a corrector. CONSTITUTION:A work holder 10 is connected with a crank shaft 15 through gears 13 and 14 and the crank shaft 15 is rotated by the work holder 10 at twice the speed of the work holder 10. A connecting arm 17 is rotatably supported at one end thereof by the eccentric portion 16 of the shaft 15 and pivotally connected at the other end of the arm 17 to a swingable arm 18 holding a cutting tool 11 so that the arm 18 can swing about a support shaft 19. When a work W held by the work holder 10 is driven for rotation, the arm 18 is swung by the crank motion of the shaft 15 and the tool 11 approaches or leaves the work W, which is formed to have a profile similar to an ellipse and constituted by sine wave curves. The slight difference of the profile from a normal ellipse is corrected by a corrector 23 to generate a normal elliptic profile for the work. |
